In July 20th, Adobe formally published the Adobe XD CC simplified Chinese version in Beijing, China. This represents the free use of the simplified Chinese version of the Adobe XD CC, a one-stop UX/UI design platform, for the design and prototyping of mobile applications and web pages, which will help accelerate the development of Chinese experience design. In addition to the launch of the simplified Chinese version of the Chinese version, Adobe has also announced the creation of a $10 million design investment fund worldwide to promote innovative development in the field of experience design.
Jamie Myrold, vice president of Adobe design, came to Beijing to attend the conference in person. This is also the first time that she has come to China.
“Experience design is one of the fastest growing areas in the design industry,” Jamie said. Helping designers synchronize their ideas with design and minimizing the obstacles they encounter in design is the main reason for Adobe to launch Adobe XD. We believe that the core functions of XD, redefined workflow, quality and performance will bring them a pleasant experience. ”

The first sight of Jamie is at the door of the publishing house. A simple skirt came with a big shoulder bag and greeted with a smile. The first impression was casual, kind and even lively.
This is the first time Jamie came to China. It was a great honor to be one of the domestic professional designer platforms, and it was a great honor to be the first Chinese media to be invited to interview her. To tell you the truth, I was nervous, but all the tension and worry were scattered when I saw a smile from Jamie. We started to look forward to the interview after the meeting.
About experience: 14 years of experience, redefining Adobe design business
Can you briefly introduce your experience in the design industry? What keeps you at the forefront of the design industry?
Jamie: actually, I have been working in Adobe for 14 years, and a great part of my career has been spent in Adobe. When I studied design, I learned Communication Design. It should be called communication design and illustration. When I was in school, there was no Internet, computer, or now smart phone, so many of the designs were done manually, including wood carving, and so on.
Later, with the Internet, many people began to do the design of the Internet. I was not very interested in the design of the Internet at the beginning. After all, I was not learning the Internet. Because my lover is IT, so I bought me a computer, I learned Photoshop and Illustrator, and then I began to design the network, and moved the previous work to the network environment. From my personal experience in digital design over the past 20 years, the design of this workflow has really changed a lot. From the static design environment in the past to the present more attention to experience, to the current UI and UX designers, the design work of the whole process of the end to end of the user experience is basically concerned.
Talking about teams: designers design their own design tools, which is interesting in itself.
How can your team work and team culture look like?
Jamie: the first thing to say is that the design culture of Adobe is very good. From the beginning, when I just joined the Adobe, our design work was basically for the product. Our communication and communication with the product department is not so much. Basically, the work of our designer is to do some icons or drawings. After this work is completed, the work is completed and the rest of the product is completed.
Now our designers have more say, and they are in a more equal position with other product sectors, including the engineering department. Designers have been given greater rights.
My personal design team culture is not only to focus on the design of the company’s products, but also to encourage the team members to do projects outside the company’s products, based on personal interests, and volunteer projects. Keep the design team innovative in this way.
In addition, I am very fond of and appreciate the Adobe creative culture, a new designer enters the team, or when I take these new people, often say: in the Adobe design work, in fact, 75% of the time you need to maintain a very close communication and contact with other departments. A closed door can miss some important design or product opportunities. Only if you keep in touch with other people with different skills, you can have a more complete perspective to design a good product.
You: as a designer, I think it’s a cool thing for a designer team to do design tools. What interesting things can I share with us in this process?
Jamie: the process of designing XD is a tool designed by a group of designers to design. The reason for this is that we can understand the core functions of the XD platform from the perspective of users.
In the process of developing XD, we always interact and communicate with the designer group, because we also realize that the nature of the design work is changing with time. When the designer team works, we should also cooperate with the customer in the whole process. This is not the same as in the past, so we hope to do the XD. The whole team worked with designers to collect their feedback.
Talk about XD: “good desire for work and a good tool”
You set up Anyang: for the traditional designer, what will the user experience sina tide bring to them in the next work and life? What do you see on this side?
Jamie: when my team is designing software, we have to consider this software in the future that it can be used both in mobile applications, in browsers, on applications on the tablet and on the desktop. When we design, we are also changing the whole design process. The designer is no longer concerned with the visual level. All the designers are going to become all-around hands. All aspects of the design should be understood. You have to pay attention to the end – to – end user experience.
The design of user experience is a new topic. Although many enterprises have realized the importance of experience design, they also realize that they want to stand out in the market, more and more rely on the design of user experience, but how to do it, in fact, many enterprises are still not very clear. Like in Adobe, our design team will actively communicate with these engineering departments and product departments and understand their problems at hand. Let’s think about how to use a better design process to solve problems for them. This means that our designers should take the initiative to communicate with them and take the initiative to attack them, so long as we can break the boundaries of our work.
In particular, as the whole environment is now, we all pay more and more attention to design, and it is said that design is very important. For designers, it is also a good opportunity for us to go to the front and to help solve some practical business problems through our creative design.
XD: what’s the difference between XD and other similar products, such as Sketch? What reasons do I have to give up the tools that I have used and choose XD?
Jamie: the most intuitive answer, the experience of this platform is really very good, actually there are many reasons to like this platform. We specialize in the promotion of experience XD. It can be said that in XD, he has no redundant and useless functions, and operates very smoothly. At the same time, because many designers use Sketch and Photoshop at the same time, XD can perfectly achieve interoperability with these products to achieve seamless docking.
The other is Adobe XD CC, which has a powerful AI engine. This platform can now easily import Sketch Sketchpad and file, for designers, there is no reason to not use this new platform, let alone it does not charge.
My affirmation of XD is not just because it’s designed by my team, and from a lot of XD user feedback, everyone thinks that XD is a product that subverts their previous design experience.
In addition, under the environment of emphasizing the experience design, we can easily apply many applications and functions by using the platform of XD. More importantly, in the process of using the XD platform, it instills the user to experience the concept and concept of design, helping designers to improve their experience design level, which is a very important concern in our design.
How can XD function and Ps overlap? Do they have a competitive relationship for their products?
Jamie: I don’t worry at all, because I think the first reason for developing XD is that we saw a blank in the market, and there was no powerful platform for experience design. XD is specially designed to solve the problems encountered in the design experience, and it can be well compatible with Ps and have good interoperability. These two products are complementary relationships.
Talking about designers: “Don’t be afraid, embrace the challenge.”
As one of the most influential designers in China, we are very clear that the designer’s advanced demand is stronger. In today’s competitive environment, being an excellent designer often needs to pay more effort than ever. Can you give them some advice here?
Jamie: the only advice I’d like to give young designers is: don’t be afraid to face this new wave, embrace these problems, and in the process of solving these challenges and problems, you will come into contact with new technologies and develop new abilities.
In the process of overcoming challenges, you can learn different technologies and be able to learn more about the business. In real life, the main ability of a designer is to improve the design ability in the process of dealing with the problem.
You can be very grateful to Jamie and hope that Adobe will bring more excellent design tools to designers in the future. Thank you!
