Drawing flower vector  with AI

We’re going to draw a vector bouquet today. Of course, the bouquet isn’t the focus, it’s the text. Just like what I’m particularly fond of: it’s the only way to get started. No design has the power to evaluate whether it is difficult or not before you finish it.

By reading this article, what will you learn?
1. Drawing skills of vector graphics
2. The layout of the flower pattern.
3, use the symbol spray gun tool to draw multi-point patterns, and use the artistic brush tool to create personalized brushes.
4, use hierarchical relations and shape generation tools to inlay characters into flowers.
Drawing up preparation materials
As you know, the process of drawing a flower is very simple. When we want to create a large flower cluster, remember, it all starts with a flower. Therefore, we first prepare every flower. This process is called preparatory material.

STEP 01

Open AI and create a wide 1200px and high 1130px drawing board. Begin to prepare materials outside the drawing board. Firstly, the pencil tool is used to draw two flowers, and the hand-drawn board is used to increase the charm of the hand-painted, thus making the whole picture more personalized. Let these two flowers be slightly different in shape, but they all fill up with pink gradients.

STEP 02

Then let’s arrange the orange-red flowers, copy the pink flowers and change their color matching, so we can get the new flower material.

STEP 03

Then add a different flower shape, the first two steps are the front of the flower, now to draw the side of the flower shape. The side shapes are orange red and yellow. The part that belongs to the “back” part of the flower should be darker. This gives you a sense of space. Note the subtle gradation of color when filling.

STEP 04

Add more flowers with different shapes to satisfy the demand for “complexity” in the whole bouquet. And the line of the modelling should appear to have the sense of arbitrariness of hand-painted, and can not lose the confidence of line modelling.

Flower leaf modeling

STEP 05

Draw the background of the rectangle on the drawing board and fill it with dark purple. The darker colors can make the flowers more colorful. Then draw two hollow circles with the circle, the stroke size is 8px, and the line is configured as shuttle shape. The two circles are slightly larger and the other smaller. The space surrounded by these two circles will be the range of our layout flowers.

STEP 06

Arrange the layout of our material flowers one by one. The purpose is to balance the filling of the circular area. In this process, everyone should have a so-called hierarchical view, that is, a very clear plan for the spatial level of flowers, and the two circles in the hierarchical space one at the top, one at the bottom. This way we can better emphasize the spatial relationship.

Flowers do not necessarily have to be enclosed in circles, or partly out of areas.

STEP 07

Safflower also needs green leaves, we do not prepare the material leaves, this is in order to arrange the position of the flowers, and then according to the actual situation to draw the leaves. The leaf’s drawing focuses on every flower, so the hierarchical relationship is clearer.
Similarly, the pencil tool is used to draw the leaves, so that each leaf appearance and according to the flowers and flowers between the position of a visual balance, which can not be arranged in advance.
The leaves are filled with bluish-green, and the bluish-green color should show a deep shade of different performance, so that it appears more full tone.

STEP 08

In addition to the more centralized parts of the flowers and leaves, we have also arranged some vine-shaped plants, these “vines” are the key details to achieve the text “embedded” in the flowers. Drawing vines can use pen tools, and pencil tools can also make very smooth lines. The vines are slightly lighter in color and are visually closer to each other. At this stage, you don’t have to arrange the spatial layers of the vines until you add the text and then adjust them in detail.

STEP 09

We’ve finished the more centralized part of the bouquet layout, but that’s not all. To make the bouquet look more brilliant, we need some “peripheral” details. This is also a way to increase the attractiveness of a pattern.
Let’s use symbolic tools to draw the first peripheral details – scattered blue flowers. First use pencil tools to draw a light blue flower. This is a very simple form. Drag the pattern into the Symbols panel, pop up a new symbols parameter box, set the corresponding parameters, click OK, you can use the toolbar in the “Symbols Airbrush Tool” in the corresponding position to “daub” drawing. You can see a series of “shifting”, “zooming” and “rotating” tools beneath the symbolic airbrush tool that allow groups to manipulate this set of symbols. To make the final effect natural, you can’t make the flowers look exactly alike.

STEP 10

In the same way, we continue to create new symbols, using the Symbolic Airbrush Tool to draw other peripheral details. The finished symbols can be extended to the path, and the size and position can be changed. This process is very flexible and free.

To create such a small detail gathered strength of infection, symbol spray gun tool is the most convenient and fast.

STEP 11

Next, we continue to add green leaves and petals, but here the green leaves and petals will be “floating” around the entire bouquet. Therefore, the quicker way to draw these green leaves here is to use an artistic brush tool than a piece of them.
At first, just like preparing symbols, let’s draw the leaves and petals with pencil tools. Then drag it into the brush panel, pop-up to create the brush type selected as the “art brush” to set the art brush option parameters, need to pay attention to the width can be selected “pressure”, minimum and maximum adjustments, and click OK.

STEP 12

After setting up the art brush, you can use the brush of petal to draw scattered petals. Each pen can draw a petal, and the shape and shape of the petal will be displayed according to the trend of your brush.

STEP 13

The scattered leaves are smaller than the leaves around the flowers, but also show the dynamic beauty of “floating”. Select the brush of the ready blade and continue to draw the shape of the blade.

These patterns created with artistic brushes also need to be “extended” into paths that can then be further adjusted to their size and location.

Embedded text
The key to embedding the text, as we have just mentioned, is the details of the vine.

STEP 14

First use the word tool to write the word “born as flowers”, arrange it into three rows and display it in the middle. I use the font Lobster, the linked font is more and better with the vine shape relationship.

STEP 15

Select the Chinese character to create the outline, copy the created outline again, paste it under the original text, and fill it with warm red. Then use the direction arrow of the keyboard to move it three pixels to the right and below, so that the depth of the text can be highlighted.

STEP 16

In addition to the shadow of the text, select the path object of the red text, and enter the [effect > stylization > projection]. The projection parameters are set as follows. After the projection is set up, we can see faint projections. But that’s not the end. Next, we extend the look of the object that we applied the projection and unmarshal it. At this point, the light black projection separates the original object from the original object and merges the red text with the previous white text into a group. This is for the convenience of embedding text.

STEP 17

Embedding text can also be a tedious process, requiring you to split and reorganize text objects back and forth, using hierarchical relationships and even shape generation tools for fine-tuning. In general, you have to make the whole picture look “reasonable”. The obscured part of the text is hidden in the bouquet, and the level of space is clear.
